The first year deals with film literacy, data import, and the foundations of key professional software as Final Cut, Avid, Premiere Pro, Audition, and After Effects. In addition, students approach the Theory of Sound from a physical perspective to learn all the techniques and the instrumentation of the Boom Operator, that is, the recording of noises and dialogues, both on the Set and in Location. The techniques and the languages of the main film units are examined since the beginning, both through editing simulations in the classroom and by working on the original practice exercises of the other courses. Students get from visual to music editing, then they work on the first sound effects and the early dialogues. They are also trained in the first year on the role of the Secretary of Edition, to better manage the audio and video material between departments, in continuity control, and they carry out a period of practical internship in the laboratory of one of the audio service partners of the school, consolidating and expanding the practical know-how of tools, terminology and technical rental.
In the second year we deal since the beginning with the authorial editing for the Short Films and Feature Films. Technically we analyze the workflow of complex digital cameras such as BlackMagic, we deepen the advanced study of the programs that were proposed in the first year, and we acquire specific techniques such as those related to Key Light and Green Screen. We continue the philosophical study of sound to hypothesize the sound mood of a project, then arrive at an advanced sound design according to film styles and genres, working along the entire sound supply chain from concept to set and post-production. The role of the Assistant Editor, whose specific tasks involve the management of the audio-video material, is fundamental. For the audio post-production, we deal with a literacy of Sound Editing through advanced learning of the Pro Tools program. For the post-video we learn about Da Vinci to familiarize with the Color Correction, the Graphic, the Headline Writing and the narrative structures of the Trailers, Teasers and Show Reels of actors, continuing the active collaboration with post-production and dubbing studies. This allows students to complete the two-year course by providing the tools of technical platforms such as Pro Tools for the Sound Editor, the Mixing Room board for the Sound Mixer and the Foley Artist Room.
The duration of the film editing and sound course is 2 years, the hours provided are about 500 a year, varying according to the expected production.
